Sandra Thomson is the winner of the 2008 School Outreach Content. She spoke to an enthusiastic group of sixth graders at Stratford Landing Elementary School in Alexandria, Virginia. Her eye-catching yellow poster was an integral part of her presentation. "I wanted a bold, succinct visual that would capture the many facets of translation – it's fun, but it's serious work."

The School Outreach Award Winner receives a free registration to ATA's 50th Annual Conference in New York City (October 28-31, 2009).

Student Translation Award

ATA presents a grant-in-aid to a student for a literary or sci-tech translation or translation-related project. The project, which may be derived from any facet of translation studies, should result in a project with post-grant applicability, such as a publication, a conference presentation, or teaching materials.

This year's winners are Heather Outland and Clinton Pechacek from Baylor University.

Gode Medal

Dr. Peter W. Krawutschke received the Alexander Gode Medal, ATA's most prestigious award which is presented to an individual or institution for outstanding service to the translation and interpreting professions.

New Generation Branches Steel Orchestra provides musical training to young people, offering them a safe and inspiring outlet for their creativity. Performances by these teens have made them one of the most sought after groups in the Orlando community.
